Provincial Team Program

Please note: our Provincial Team Program includes both indoor and beach volleyball disciplines. These High Performance programs are operated by Volleyball PEI. Volleyball PEI will decide annually which age group programs (indoor and/or beach) will be run during their respective seasons. Factors taken into consideration for these decisions will depend on player and coach availability, competitions, and other items

For Team GREEN/Team BLACK, athletes would have to attend a minimum of 3 sessions to be eligible to make the teams, but athletes can attend as many sessions as they wish. For Team WHITE, athletes should attend a minimum of 2 sessions out of the 3 offered. .

All athletes must be registered members of Volleyball PEI to participate.

Two ID sessions are being held before club teams go away to Nationals, one ID session is while these athletes are away, and two ID sessions are being held after the club teams return from Nationals - so there are a lot of date options for the athletes.

Team GREEN will have a minimum of 20 athletes and a maximum of 24 athletes (2 teams).   Team BLACK must have a minimum of 9, maximum of 10 athletes and Team WHITE must have a minimum of 9, maximum of 10 athletes.

INDOOR VOLLEYBALL - Provincial Team Program for Summer 2024:

Team PEI GREEN:

o The PEI GREEN program is focused on the development of indoor performance. The athletes selected from the Identification and Selection process will participate in weekly training sessions leading up to the national Canada Cup competition in Calgary and the Eastern Elite Indoor Competition in Fredericton. The focus will be on preparing athletes for their next level by developing higher-level skills that will prepare them for National competitions and beyond.

§ Athlete Eligibility: born in 2005-2008*
• *Note: to be selected for indoor Team PEI GREEN, athletes born in 2005-2006 MUST have High-Performance Pathway Potential.

§ Athlete Numbers
• up to 24 female athletes in 1 training group, 2 competition teams (one team will attend Canada Cup, one will attend Eastern Elites Indoor/Beach Championship)

• up to 24 male athletes in 1 training group, 2 competition teams (one team will attend Canada Cup, one will attend Eastern Elites Indoor/Beach Championship)

• TEAM PEI BLACK & TEAM PEI WHITE:

o The PEI BLACK & WHITE programs are focused on the development of athletes who are starting their high-performance indoor journey. The athletes selected from the Identification and Selection process will participate in weekly training sessions leading up to the regional Eastern Elites indoor & beach competition in Fredericton. The goal of the BLACK & WHITE programs is to expose athletes to high performance volleyball concepts, as well as Team PEI culture and technical identity, and to a higher level of training and competition.

§ Athlete Eligibility: born in 2008-2010

§ Athlete Numbers
• up to 30 female athletes in 1 training group, 3 indoor competition teams

• up to 30 male athletes in 1 training group, 3 indoor competition teams

• ATHLETE IDENTIFICATION:

o Athletes must attend Tryouts Sessions to be identified for Team PEI programs:

§ Tryout Sessions will be 1.5-2 hours, and take place across the province in April-May

§ Specific dates, locations and times TBD

§ Athletes should attend as many Tryout Sessions as possible but a minimum of 2/4 sessions.

§ Following the Tryout Sessions, all athletes will be notified with their outcome, and whether they will be named to Team PEI GREEN, Team PEI BLACK & WHITE, or if they were unsuccessful in making Team PEI this year.

• ATHLETE SELECTION:

o An athlete who is unable to attend the Tryout Sessions will not be considered for Team PEI.

o An athlete unable to commit to the majority of Team PEI training and competition will not be considered for Team PEI.

• TRAINING/COMPETITION SCHEDULE:

o PEI GREEN - Female & Male

§ Training on-court: 2-3x/week in May/June/July.
§ Competitions: Canada Cup - July 23-28, Calgary AB or Eastern Elites – July 17-20, Fredericton NB

o PEI BLACK & WHITE - Female & Male

§ Training on-court: 2-3x/week starting in late June/July. Combination of indoor & beach training.
§ Indoor Competition: Eastern Elites – July 17-20, Fredericton NB

• COST:

o Tryout Sessions:
§ Cost is $10.00/athlete/session

o Team PEI Indoor Training/Competition:

PEI GREEN Athlete Cost is typically between $1000-2000/athlete  (depends on which competition athlete is selected to attend)

PEI BLACK & WHITE Athlete Cost is typically between $750-1000/athlete

§ Program fees include training, coach honorariums, apparel, travel to/from competition, & accommodation at selected competitions.

§ All program payments will be done online through SportLomo. Registration must be completed by payment deadline (TBA)

§ There will be two main payment options available:
• Installment – initial deposit of $500, followed by four bi-weekly payments (credit card charges)

• Full Payment by date (TBA)

§ In the event neither of these options fit for an athlete/family, please connect VPEI to discuss options.

Volleyball PEI is looking for Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, and Session coaches to lead their 2024 Provincial INDOOR teams this summer!

Note - Our recently named Canada Games 2025 Indoor Volleyball Coaches will lead our
2024 TEAM GREEN provincial programs. This "call out" for coaches is to get interested coaches to lead
TEAM BLACK & WHITE (Indoor Volleyball) and TEAM GREEN & TEAM BLACK & WHITE (beach volleyball).
